Synopsis

In the gripping 2014 crime thriller The Smoke, we follow the downward spiral of city lawyer Brad Walker, played by Matt di'Angelo, whose life seems to unravel in a single, chaotic day. After being unceremoniously dumped by his demanding girlfriend Sasha (Anna Passey) for his so-called friend Tom (Christian Brassington) and losing his job, Brad seeks solace in a night out with old buddy Dean (Jeff Leach). However, his attempt to drown his sorrows takes a dark turn when he unwittingly overhears a conversation between two small-time drug dealers, Phil (Darren Ripley) and Ben (Stephen Marcus), who are involved with a local gangster named Jack (Alan Ford). This chance encounter thrusts Brad into a dangerous underworld that he never wanted to be a part of, forcing him to confront both his own moral compass and the consequences of his decisions.

The Smoke explores the complexities of betrayal, desperation, and the unexpected choices that can alter the course of our lives. As Brad navigates this treacherous new reality, the film delves into themes of loyalty and the fragility of human relationships, showcasing how quickly someone can go from being on top of the world to being ensnared in a criminal web. With a mix of suspense and romance, the story highlights Brad's struggle not just for survival in a hostile environment, but also for redemption and self-discovery amid chaos. While it may not have achieved critical acclaim, the film offers a unique perspective on the intersection of love and crime, making it a compelling watch for those intrigued by tales of moral ambiguity and personal reckoning.
