Synopsis

In the 2010 drama Sankaku, directed by Keisuke Yoshida, we dive into the life of Momose, a former street punk trying to navigate the complexities of adulthood. Living with his girlfriend Kayo, played by Tomoko Tabata, their seemingly stable relationship is thrown into disarray when Kayo's younger sister, Momo (Erena Ono), comes to stay for the summer. Momo's vivacious and carefree spirit brings a fresh energy into their home, challenging Momose’s own perceptions of love and loyalty. As the summer unfolds, the lines between friendship and romance blur, leading to unexpected emotional turmoil.

The film delicately explores themes of love, jealousy, and self-discovery, wrapped in a light-hearted comedic narrative that often veers into poignant territory. Momose's internal conflict becomes the heart of the story, as he grapples with the magnetic pull he feels toward Momo and the implications it has for his relationship with Kayo. Sankaku offers viewers a thoughtful reflection on the messiness of human emotions, accentuated by Yoshida's keen eye for character development and relatable situations. With a blend of humor and drama, this film captures the essence of youthful exploration and the complexities of the heart, making it a compelling watch for anyone who enjoys stories about love's unpredictable nature.
