Synopsis

In the unsettling horror film Link, released in 1986, young graduate student Jane Chase finds herself stepping into a world far more dangerous than she anticipated when she becomes the assistant to the peculiar zoology professor, Dr. Stephen Philbrook. Nestled in a remote house that doubles as a research facility, Jane is introduced to an intriguing array of characters, including two highly intelligent chimpanzees and an elderly orangutan butler named Link. However, the atmosphere quickly shifts from academic curiosity to palpable dread when the sudden death of one of the chimps coincides with the professor's mysterious disappearance, leaving Jane alone with the increasingly volatile Link, who harbors a menacing presence.

As Jane navigates this treacherous situation, Link explores themes of isolation and the thin line between human and animal instincts. The film builds tension effectively, transforming what initially appears to be an eccentric academic environment into a harrowing struggle for survival. Jane’s character arc highlights her resilience in the face of escalating danger, and the film invites viewers to ponder the ethical implications of scientific experimentation and the complexities of human-animal relationships. With its unsettling narrative and intriguing character dynamics, Link offers a chilling experience that lingers long after the credits roll, making it a distinctive entry in the horror genre of the mid-'80s.
